#TurksandCaicos, November 1, 2022 – “We are devastated by the tragedy that occurred on November 1st, the latest incident to shake our country. I share my deepest sympathies with the friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives, especially the child who must now navigate life without the love, guidance and protection of her sibling and parents.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice. With the full support of my government, the Police Force is also investigating the root causes of this unprecedented uptick in violence on our Islands, and I thank them for their continued hard work and determination. I also want to thank our law enforcement partners from The Bahamas, the UK and beyond.
The situation may feel dire, but we have a strong, capable team that is making great strides to end this dark chapter. I thank our Parliament for recently passing legislation that will further empower this team to identify and bring justice to criminals on our Islands.
To those who are responsible for these despicable crimes and to the individuals who aid and abet them, know that you will be brought to justice. Your criminal behavior betrays the TCI Islands, its people and their livelihoods. What you think you stand to gain – from this criminal activity – pales in comparison to what you will lose once you are detained and prosecuted.
During this challenging time, I urge my fellow countrymen and women to stand tall and face the future with bravery and pride. We all can play a role in ending this violence, especially if we communicate and collaborate with each other as much as possible. To that end, I strongly urge anyone with direct knowledge of suspicious or illegal activity to contact 911 immediately or call Crime Stoppers – which accepts information anonymously – at 1-800-346-8477. Individuals with any knowledge of illegal immigration activity may directly contact the Immigration Intelligence Unit at 649-338-4415 or tciintel@gov.tc.
As we continue this fight, I want to express my gratitude for the assistance and resilience of those who are supporting the country in these ongoing efforts. I have no doubt that we will return to the peaceful normalcy to which we are all accustomed.”
