US Coast Guard intercepts, deports 46 Dominican boatpeople

San Juan.- The US Coast Guard in Puerto Rico on Tuesday said it repatriated 46 Dominican migrants and handed them over to their country’ authorities in the town of Samaná (northeast).

It said in a statement quoted by EFE that three men and a woman remain on Puerto Rican soil where they could be tried for trying to reenter US territory several times illegally.

The boatpeople were arrested in two interceptions carried out on Sunday in the Mona passage, between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The arrest, according to a statement from the Coast Guard, was made possible by the collaboration between the Coast Guard and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The Abuser’s spouse is taken to a high security prison

Santo Domingo.- The spouse of César Emilio Peralta (the Abuser), Marisol Franco, was escorted to the high security prison at Najayo (south) where she will serve the pretrial detention ordered by a National District judge on September 9.

Franco’s transfer took place over the weekend.

José Alejandro Vargas ruled three months in prison against Franco claiming security reasons, since in his view, would be a target on the street.

She hasn’t been able to justify the purchase of a RD$700,000 watch.

Meanwhile the Abuser continues fugitive.

Two Dominicans extradited to the US in Abuser case

Santo Domingo. – Dominican authorities on Tues. extradited Baltazar Mesa (El Maestro) and José Jesús Tapia Pérez (Bola Negra or Boludo) to the United States, charged with forming part of the alleged drug trafficking network headed by the fugitive César Emilio Peralta (César El Abusador).

Baltazar and Tapia were handed over at Las Américas International Airport to DEA agents, who transferred them to New York City where they will be arraigned in a criminal court.

Executive order 285-19 was issued to extradite Tapia to the US, whereas Mesa was extradited through decree. 286-19. They are both Dominican citizens

Dominican Republic, Russia to cooperate on nuclear energy

Moscow.- The Russian nuclear energy corporation Rosatom and Dominican Republic’s Energy and Mines Ministry on Tuesday signed the first memorandum on bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

“The memorandum is the first cooperation document between the two countries in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy,” said the Russian agency RIA Nóvosti.

According to the Russian entity, the document lays the groundwork for establishing cooperation in various directions, in particular, in the development of the nuclear infrastructure in the Dominican Republic.
