Trinidad and Tobago has been handed a tough assignment in the 2023 Concacaf U 17 Championships, set for 11-26 February in Guatemala.
Trinidad and Tobago’s U17 team have been drawn with the USA, Canada, and Barbados in Group F of the Championships.
The top three teams in each group advance to the knockout stage of the tournament where they will be joined by four 2022 Concacaf U17 Men’s Qualifiers.
The four-round knockout stage will be played in a single-match elimination format, with the four semifinalists qualifying for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru.
Trinidad and Tobago will be coached by current Presentation College coach Sean Cooper.
Cooper was appointed in August 2022 for his third term as national U17 men’s coach.
He took Trinidad and Tobago’s teams in 2011 and 2013 to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Championships.
In related news, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has announced that screening for Tobago players for selection on the national men’s U17 team will take place on Sunday at Shaw Park.
The screening session starts at 9 am and it is open to players born between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2008.
