The prefect of the Guadeloupe region informed the population today that at 6 pm Guadeloupe was placed in red vigilance for heavy rains and thunderstorms and maintained in orange for high winds and waves-submersion due to Tropical Storm Fiona.

The end of the event is estimated on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 6 am at the earliest.

Heavy rainfall is expected at the very beginning of the evening followed by an intensification during the second half of the night and early Saturday morning, which should last less intensely all day Saturday.

As a result, it was decided to close the Saint-Louis road at 6 pm, the ford of which has already overflowed, as well as the Traversée road at 7 pm, due to the risk of falling trees. Air traffic will be suspended from 7 pm until tomorrow Saturday at 12 pm.

It will only resume depending on favourable weather conditions, which will be assessed tomorrow morning.

The prefect has asked the population to avoid all travel and to stay at home.
