Trinidad & Tobago launches first onshore gas project in 20 years
Canadian junior Touchstone announced on October 11 the launch of the first new onshore gas project in Trinidad and Tobago in two decades, reporting the start of gas flow from the Ortoire block.
The Coho facility, tied to the Coho-1 well at Ortoire, is producing gas at a sustained rate of 10.5mn ft3/day, Touchstone said in a statement. The gas will be sold to the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd under a sales deal reached in December 2020.
Coho is one of a string of discoveries that Touchstone has made at the Ortoire block, which it operates with a 80% interest, alongside local partner Heritage Petroleum, with 20%. Ortoire will be the first onshore gas project to come on stream in two decades in Trinidad and Tobago, where most hydrocarbon development takes place offshore.
Off the coast there have been other new upstream projects starting up this year. At the end of March, Shell delivered first gas from its Colibri field, while DeNovo in July launched its Zandolle project.
