arnival has officially descended on the Soca Kingdom.

For the first time in three years Tribe was able to host a band launch.

And they did so with style.

With four events in three days, Tribe held its SunsetWkn.

The three-day launch kicked off on Friday with the Carib Sunset Theatre.

The event which started at 7 pm was dubbed “The Launch of Carnival 2023.”

There were various activities, including seven cultural displays showcasing the many traditions of T&T.

The Mayor of Port-of-Spain, Joel Martinez also officially presented the Keys To The City of Port-of-Spain to Machel Montano.

The second day of events, Saturday, started at 7am with sunSWEAT a fitness fete held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium’s Training Ground.

Soca artiste Preedy (Akeem Chance) performed at that event.

On Saturday evening the Tribe Family of Bands launched at the Jean Pierre Complex at 6 pm. The event featured the six bands that make up the Tribe Family on Bands- Tribe, Bliss, Lost Tribe, Harts, Rogue and Pure.

Solange Govia, a costume designer who created seven sections for Trinidad Carnival 2023—Solmani for Harts, Nyanga for Bliss, Power for The Lost Tribe, Trinity for Rogue, Asteria for Harts, Saber for Bliss and Magna Carta for Tribe—expressed her pleasure at the return of the band launch season.

“After two years, there was definitely a lot of built-up emotions and creativity with no outlet to express them artistically. Coming out of the Bandlaunch, I feel proud of each and every design that I’ve created, and to experience the spirit of collaboration that Carnival really brings to the forefront for a lot of us who are tied to the industry as professionals,” Govia told Guardian Media.

“Designing is what I was born to do, and I always appreciate the opportunity to connect with my masqueraders in such a personal, culturally honest way. This season is very special, and I’m so happy to be back out and creating—I feel the love from everyone and I am eternally grateful,” she said.

The weekend ended with Las Jam Carnival which was held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and featured choreography from Bridgette Wilson.

Tribe’s CEO Dean Ackin stated that the SunsetWkn will “not only be spectacular but how we take Carnival in the future.”
