Tobago’s Assistant Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, Assemblyman Megan Morrison, met with Grenada’s Permanent Secretary with responsibility for Youth, Sports, and Culture, Mr Norman Gilbert, earlier today at the Ministry’s Head Office in St. George’s, Grenada.
According to a media release, further partnerships and collaborations, knowledge sharing and transfers for the development of both islands’ cultural products, as well as cultural innovations, were among some of the areas discussed.
Assemblyman Morrison was accompanied by Artiste and Radio Personality, Adana Roberts; Artiste and Music Producer, Gerard Balfour; and the 2022 Ms Tobago Heritage Personality, Leighanne Charles. It said as part of the ongoing cultural exchange, Ms Roberts will be performing as a guest artiste at the Grenadian Groovy Soca Monarch Finals tonight.
The release noted that the visit follows the acceptance of an official invitation from the CEO of The Spicemas Corporation, Mr Kelvin Jacobs, for a twinning activity between Tobago and Grenada for observation of the carnival festivities, destination promotion and exposure, and visibility on a regional level for Tobago artists.
It said the Executive Council-approved Grenada mission also serves as a springboard for deeper conversations on potential tourism and cultural partnerships and the possibility of the commencement of commercial intra-regional sea travel between Tobago and Grenada for the inaugural Tobago October Carnival, which is scheduled for October 28th–30th, 2022.
It said given the Tobago House of Assembly’s mandate to encourage cultural integration through regional partnerships and exchange, Tobago can expect to welcome, in reciprocation, a contingent from Grenada who will participate in Tobago’s October Carnival offerings.
“This will also provide an avenue for further arrivals to Tobago and participation by Grenada-based stakeholders and leisure seekers opting for a different experience.”
