Trinbago Knight Riders all-rounder Geetika Kodali has been named on the USA women’s team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in the UAE in September.

The 18-year-old Californian, who is representing the Knight Riders in the 2022 Women’s Caribbean Premier League, has been named as the vice-captain of the USA women’s team.

Kodali, who was part of the Knight Riders team that finished runners-up in the Women’s 6IXTY on Sunday, led the USA U19 team to victory in the CWI Women’s U19 Rising Stars Championship in Trinidad.

The teenager became the first person to take a hat-trick in The 6IXTY when she dismissed the Barbados Royals trio of Hayley Matthews, Britney Cooper, and Chloe Tryon off successive deliveries.

Kodali also led the USA U19 team to a 4-1 win over the West Indies U19 women’s team in a series in August 2022 in Lauderhill, Florida.

Isani Vaghela (Guyana Amazon Warriors) and Snigdha Paul (Barbados Royals), who were also part of teams for the Women’s 6ITXY, were also selected to the USA Women’s team.

The qualifier for the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi.

Sindhu Sriharsha has been named as USA captain.

The team includes several players who were part of the USA women’s U19 team for the CWI U19 Rising Stars tournament and the T20I series against West Indies U19s.

West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul is unavailable due to a previous commitment and he has been replaced by Earl Daley and Burt Cockley.

Chanderpaul is the head coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs, a job he took up in January 2022.

The former West Indies player was appointed USA Women’s coach in July 2022.

The 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in South Africa from 9-26 February.
