Officials said a 19-year-old was killed on Tuesday night in a road traffic accident near the Brian Lara Stadium.

Police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Francisco Mohammad of Hermitage Road.

According to police reports, around 7:50 pm, Mohammed was a passenger in a blue AD Wagon that was proceeding south along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, when upon reaching the vicinity of the Stadium, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The car then came into contact with the guard rail and the vehicle flipped in the air several times.

Mohammed was thrown out of the vehicle and made contact with another car that was proceeding on the northbound lane.

Persons who witnessed the accident notified the police and paramedics, and Mohammed, as well as four other relatives – two aged 17 and two aged 18 – were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.

However, Mohammed died upon arrival.

This incident has pushed the number of road fatalities up to 83.

More on this as it becomes available.
