Police said a 17-year-old teenager was one of three people held after an AR15 rifle, a Glock 17-pistol, and over 72 rounds of assorted ammunition were allegedly seized in a vehicle that bore false license plates.
According to police reports, around 5.30 pm on Monday, a team of officers led by Sgt Ramdial received key intelligence of illegal activities taking place along Nohar Road in Tableland.
When they arrived at the location given, the officers had cause to intercept a silver Nissan Tiida with three occupants – a 17-year-old, as well as a 20-year-old, and a 25-year-old.
The vehicle was searched and in the car, they found the weapons and ammunition, as well as a quantity of tape, tie straps, masks, and fishermen’s hats.
Police said there were also several false number plates in the car.
Police believe the group was on their way to commit a series of robberies as the 25-year-old was known as a ‘priority offender’.
As a result, the officers involved in this operation were heavily praised for their swift actions.
Police said the three are to be questioned in relation to other offences in the district, following which they will be charged and brought before the courts.
More on this as it becomes available.
