More details have emerged about the murder, which occurred during today’s J’ouvert festivities in St Kitts.
The St Kitts Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) confirmed on its social media that the victim was stabbed in the abdomen during the street party.
The incident occurred around 10 am on Fort Street in the capital Basseterre.
The man, who remains unidentified, was taken to hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
SKNNCC said the stabbing was an unfortunate stain on the festivities, which had no major incidents apart from the murder.
Shannon Hawley, Chairperson of the SKNNCC, expressed her condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
She said the perpetrator was “wicked”.
“It’s unfortunate that today’s street activities were marred with a senseless murder in the middle of jubilation. How could one person be so wicked to spoil it for all of us?” Hawley remarked in a Facebook post as she noted that many on the island had waited patiently for two years to enjoy the merriment of carnival.
Minister of The Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, also sent condolences and expressed his outage at the incident.
He said crime has no place in society.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated and we trust that the appropriate action will be meted out to all violators,” he stated.
The Violent Crime Unit is investigating the murder.
