Sanju Samson will have an extended stay in the Caribbean islands and will also travel to USA after being added to the T20I squad for the five-match series against West Indies. Samson was only named in the ODI squad and was added to the T20I squad just a few hours before the opening game on Friday (July 29).
The wicketkeeper-batsman replaced KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the series after testing positive for COVID-19. Samson was picked over Ishan Kishan and kept wickets for the Men in Blue.

Before the start of the T20I series, Samson came up heartfelt gesture towards an Indian journalist, Vimal Kumar. The journalist took to his Youtube channel to share Samson’s heartfelt gesture towards him.

As per Vimal, Samson offered him to travel with the team to the Brian Lara Stadium for the series opener. The wicketkeeper-batsman didn’t know that the protocols don’t allow journalists to travel with the team. Samson’s heartfelt gesture left the journalist in awe of the cricketer.

The 27-year-old wasn’t included in the playing XI in the opening T20I as Rishabh Pant kept the wickets. Surprisingly, there was no place for Ishan Kishan either. The team management sprung a big surprise and asked Suryakumar Yadav to open with Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar has opened the innings for Mumbai Indians in the past.

Riding on a half-century from captain Rohit and a knock of 41* off 19 by finisher Dinesh Karthik, India put on a huge total of 190/6 on the board. Debutant Alzarri Joseph scalped two wickets for the home team.
