Officials are investigating after a salvager was crushed to death by a tractor at the Forres Park landfill.

In a statement, SWMCOL said that David Charles succumbed to injuries after being crushed by a tractor at the Forres Park landfill on June 24.

The company said investigations are underway into the incident which took place around 2:30 pm.

“Preliminary reports indicate that Charles was accidentally crushed by a D8 tractor that was compacting an area within the tipping vicinity of the landfill.”

SWMCOL’s CEO, Kevin Thompson offered condolences to Charles’ family.

“This tragic loss of life deeply saddens SWMCOL.  On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of SWMCOL, I wish to extend our prayers and sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.”

SWMCOL said urged all users of the nation’s landfills to exercise caution while on the premises and to adhere to health and safety guidelines at all times.

The company said more information will be released as it becomes available.
