THE Saint Lucia-Cuba Humanistic Solidarity Association has joined the Government and People of Cuba in paying homage to the memory of the late President Fidel Castro, on the 4th Anniversary of his death on (November 25, 2016).

In a press statement yesterday, the association said, “It is with profound gratitude that we remember Fidel and Cuba’s immense humanitarian acts. We can never forget that it is through his vision and policies that, over the past 40 years, Saint Lucia has benefited and continues to benefit from Cuba’s generosity in providing free tertiary education scholarships to hundreds of Saint Lucian students in various fields of academic and technical endeavor.

“To date, more than 600 Saint Lucians have graduated from the Universities in Cuba, producing several Engineers, Veterinarians, Nurses, Doctors of Medicine, Physical Education Specialists, Architects, Economists, etc., thereby contributing to the national development of Saint Lucia.

“Cuba continues to provide immeasurable assistance to Saint Lucia in the health sector, through their Medical Assistance Programs and the Cuban Miracle Eye Care Program, from which thousands of Saint Lucians continue to benefit”.

The statement said, “Saint Lucians also continue to benefit from the assistance of the Cuban Henry Reeve Brigade of medical practitioners, including doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals from among 40 countries benefiting in the Caribbean and worldwide in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Association also expressed “continued gratitude and solidary to the Government and resilient people of Cuba for their generosity and humanity to Saint Lucians and by extension the Caribbean region and internationally.”
