This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Charlton Athletic are in a bad way right now.

Rumours continue to swirl about whether Thomas Sandgaard will sell the League One club after his relationship with fans has turned sour while interim boss Anthony Hayes hasn’t been able to right the ship after Ben Garner’s sacking.

It’s too early to talk about them as bona fide relegation candidates but things are bleak at The Valley right now.

There doesn’t seem to be much optimism that January can bring any sort of relief either given the way Sandgaard approached the summer.

With the winter window now close, we’ve asked FLW’s Charlton fan pundit Ben Fleming to pick out the club’s three worst signings in the past 10 years…

3. Ricardo Vaz Te

Ricardo Vaz Te enjoyed an impressive career in English football but his spell at The Valley was underwhelming, to say the least.

The Portuguese marksman was signed as a free agent in November 2015 but was released from his contract just three months later.

Vaz Te made 12 appearances during his time with Charlton – failing to score and providing one assist – and has blamed then-manager Jose Riga for his struggles in interviews since.

2. Yohann Thuram

The Roland Duchâtelet era was an eventful period at The Valley and supporters may remember Yohann Thuram for their former owner’s part in the goalkeeper’s ill-fated spell at the south London club.

Signed on loan from Belgian club Standard Liege in January 2014, Thuram never really looked up to it and made just four appearances in total.

Reports at the time suggested that then-manager Chris Powell was forced into playing the Guadeloupe international by Duchâtelet, who felt he should have been above Ben Hamer in the pecking order.

Not for the first time when it came to matters involving Charlton, he was wrong.

1. Piotr Parzyszek

Piotr Parzyszek may not be a name that many EFL supporters are aware of but he’s remembered for all the wrong reasons at The Valley.

The striker was signed for a six-figure fee in January 2014 as the Addicks looked to add some more forward firepower but played just three minutes of football in a Charlton shirt.

His cameo from the bench against Birmingham City in February proved to be his only appearance for the club and he was released from his contract in February 2016.

One of the odder signings the Addicks have made in the past decade and in Ben’s opinion, the worst.
