Ramps Logistics Guyana says fraud charges filed in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) will be reviewed and responded to by the company’s lawyers via the courts.
The charges come just days after the company filed an application for Judicial Review against the Local Content Secretariat.
In a statement, the company noted that each declaration filed by the GRA deals with duty free importations, but, there are no taxes or duties applicable on the imports and so there is no loss of Revenue to the GRA.
On July 12, the GRA wrote to RLG informing them of an investigation into alleged false declarations.
Nearly two weeks later, the company’s lawyers wrote the GRA challenging the allegations raised by the GRA. In its response, RLG lawyers said the Authority’s claims had no basis in law, which it said was supported by the Guyana Customs Act.
A response from the GRA came eight weeks later. However, the company said none of the legal points raised by its lawyers was addressed.
The following day, September 30, RLG filed for judicial review against the Local Content Secretariat.
On Wednesday, the GRA issued a statement indicating it would be filing charges against the company for false declarations.
RLG concluded: “We have always respected the laws of every country we operate in and have always been transparent in everything we do. We will continue to operate with the highest levels of integrity. We continue to be committed to Guyana and hope for a fair and speedy resolution of this situation.”
