(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 27 – Pope Francis on Sunday hailed an
Italian nun slain in an attempted robbery in Haiti as a martyr.
Sister Lucia Dell’Orto, 64, from Lombardy, was killed on
Saturday in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince where she had
been working for decades helping the poor.
“Sister Lucia had been living there for twenty years, devoted
above all to the service of street children,” Francis said
during his Angelus blessing.
“Sister Lucia made of her life a gift for others, up to her
martyrdom”. (ANSA).
