Police said a 19-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly attacked and shot at a St Joseph resident on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities said the incident took place around 3.45 pm on Saturday along the Priority Bus Route in the vicinity of the mosque.
Police were told the 26-year-old victim was confronted by a group of men who allegedly hit him with a piece of wood.
However, when a member of the group pulled out a gun, the victim ran from the scene.
He heard gunshots but was not struck.
He managed to run a short distance away to his home, and where he met other relatives.
He quickly told them of what was transpiring and the family fought back against the group.
One of the relatives was armed with a cutlass, police were told.
The men were able to hold off the group, and even detain the 19-year-old, who was handed over when police arrived.
Officers were then pointed in the vicinity of a pile of red sand in the savannah and the party of officers observed three brass cylindrical objects resembling that of spent ammunition.
The party of officers then contacted the CSI and they arrived and photographed the said spent shells, packaged and took possession of same.
Police said the injured suspect was then taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment for apparent chop wounds.
More on this as it becomes available.
