The organizers of the first-ever National Comedy Competition dubbed “Laugh Out Loud (LOL) Dominica”, are satisfied with preparations and public response to the event which will be held at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Saturday 6th August 2022.

The comedy competition is organized by the National Joint Action Movement (NJAM) and Media House, in a collaborative effort to educate and mobilize the Dominican population on issues of national development, to revive the theater movement in the Commonwealth of Dominica that has been almost nonexistent in recent years and to create another avenue for Dominicans to pursue careers in the art form.

Medical research has proven that Laughter is the best medicine,” “Humor is good for the health”! It is generally accepted that laughter draws people together in ways that trigger healthy physical and emotional changes in the body. Laughter strengthens the immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects persons from the damaging effects of stress.

The competition is scheduled to be held at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday 6th August 2022 at the Goodwill Parish Hall in a live performance that will also be streamed on various social media platforms.

Participation in the comedy competition is open to all Dominicans with the relevant talent and capable to make people “Laugh Out Loud Dominica” through a registration process which ends on July 7th.

The event will be dedicated to the memory of Michael Bruney and will be a tribute to Dr. Alwin Bully two stalwarts involved in the development of the theatre movement in Dominica for more than fifty years.

One of the highlights of the event will be a guest performance by a famous character, Gwobeh,  of the radio serials Green Gold and Winds of Change, of the 1970s and 80s.

The Comedy competition is expected to be the beginning of the development of the art form in Dominica.
