While water has begun to recede in some places along the Manzanilla stretch, the road is still blocked off to the public.
According to Cumuto/ Manzanilla MP Dr Rai Ragbir in an update on Wednesday, a new river has been formed alongside the Manzanilla stretch leading into the sea.
As a result, a number of coconut trees were also taken down by the water pressure and part of the roadway in the vicinity of light pole 293 has completely broken away.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, Anil Juteram confirmed that the entire area from the Manzanilla boardwalk to the bridge collapsed.
As a result, several homes and businesses along the coast remain compromised.
He said up until Wednesday morning, no remedial works were underway in the area.
Juteram noted however that last Friday, November 25, a number of engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport PURE department were seen assessing several situations in Sangre Grande.
“But this has been a week now, since last week Wednesday that road was taken over by a lot of water and it’s very alarming that we are not seeing any sort of equipment trying to make headway so that water from the Mangrove can go straight into the sea.”
