Naparima College made a scintillating start to their defence of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) title on Wednesday with a 9-1 thrashing of St Augustine Secondary at Warner Street, St Augustine.

Omari Campbell and Nathaniel O’Garro scored doubles, while Kanye Francis, Andres France, Israel Joseph, Terrell Rajoon, and an own goal beefed up their tally.

St Augustine got a lone item from Jordan Ferdinand in the sixth minute to take the lead before Naparima got into gear, and hit nine unanswered goals past their hosts.

Speyside High was also impressive on the opening day of the 2022 SSFL, taking down Carapichaima East Secondary 5-0 in another one-sided affair.

Jarlon Toppin scored a double, with Reyes Gray, Lennox Eastman, and Milz Johnson getting the other goals for Speyside.

St Anthony’s College started its quest for the title with a solid 2-0 win over Pleasantville Secondary.

Joshua Millett and Mordacia Forde notched the goals to take command of the three points.

St Benedict’s College came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with 10-man Fatima College.

Ephraim Brown canceled out Khiba Romany’s 27th-minute opener, with a strike on the hour.

Naparima College leads Group A after racking up a +8 goal difference in their opening game.

Round 2 is on Saturday.
