Trinidad and Tobago: Two men and a woman were presented before the Court of Rio Claro Magistrates’ on Friday, September 2, after they were arrested for possession of firearm and larceny offences.
This follows thorough enquiries which were conducted by the TTPS (Trinidad and Tobago Police Service) in a series of robberies and assaults carried out in the Rio Clara district.
The suspects are identified as 43-year-old Kevin Mitchell and 35-year-old Kerwin Lumumba George, both residents of St Mary’s, Moruga and a 24-year-old Iesha London of Claira Gregory Street, Siparia and Enid Village.
All three were charged with trafficking of firearms and three counts of firearm possession as well as possession of ammunition.
Mitchell was remanded till Tuesday. This will enable bail to be considered and a thorough tracing to be held.
Meanwhile, London was given $750,000 bail with the approval of the magistracy.
On the other hand, George, charged with 20 other related offences, was rejected bail. He will now have to apply for bail before a chamber judge.
His other crimes include nine counts of robbery with violence, four counts of assault with intent to rob, four counts of theft with aggravation, burglary, rape and malicious damage.
George is also reported to have been involved in seven separate incidents that occurred between July 17 and August 26. This includes an incident in which a 70-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were robbed and assaulted, and a 13-year-old girl was raped.
The matters have been adjourned till September 29. As per the police officials, officers probed a silver Tiida at Libertville, Rio Claro, around 8:30 pm on August 27 and found three passengers in the vehicle.
The officers looked inside the vehicle and found one Glock pistol along with an extended magazine containing seven rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and another magazine. All three occupants were captured and arrested.
