The second category for the annual Loop Awards 2022 is Team of the Year.
The Team of the Year category highlights sports personnel who come together for the greater goal and set aside ego to operate as a cohesive unit to compete against the best in the world and overcome them.
The Team of the Year speaks to those who exemplify unity, drive and passion for greatness. In this category, we look at nominees who have put aside self and devoted their skill and strength to their country.
The three nominees for this category are the Jamaica Tallawahs – Hero CPL 2022 Victory, the Jamaica Women’s 4 x 100m Relay (2nd World Championships) and the Haitian Amputee Football team (4th in the Amputee World Cup).
We have found these teams to not only work toward an achievement that benefits their country and region but also execute as any ideal team should- with strong leadership and each member operating well within their roles while aiding one another to victory.
Let’s look at the accomplishments of each team for 2022!
Nominee 1: Jamaica Tallawahs
We believe that the performance of the Jamaica Tallawahs, which led them to victory in the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL), is deserving of this nomination. The team secured an eight-wicket win over the Barbados Royals. Its elite batsmen and bowlers played an attacking game, joining forces that frustrated their opponents with hard bowling, wickets and beautiful partnerships that led to the team’s win.
Nominee 2: Jamaica Women’s 4 x 100m Relay
Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Kemba Nelson secured silver at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Though they didn’t take home the gold as is customary, this power team did exceptionally well, especially considering that Jackson, Thompson-Herah and Fraser-Pryce each had already run six races.
All four ladies worked together to overcome a slight mishap and made up for lost time, going all out to cross the line and secure a medal for their country.
Nominee 3:Haitian Amputee Football Team
This spectacular team represented its country in the Amputee World Cup and made their fellow countrymen proud by finishing 4th in such a massive competition. The team made it to the quarter-finals, where they squared off with Uzbekistan and the game ended 4-2.
To make it to the quarter-finals, the Haitian Amputee Football Team knocked off six previous matches. And in the words of captain Manley Osias, “It’s for the entire country.”
These three teams gave it their all. They worked together to bring glory to their country. It’s now your time to vote. Your vote helps decide who wins Team of the Year!
