Links XI beat Valleyline Sports Club in the finals of the Southern Sports Sunday 30-over finals at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday.

Skipper Ameer Buckreedan hit a quickfire 39 to inspire Links XI to 164 all out in 29.2 overs.

The Links XI captain put on 50 for the first wicket with wicketkeeper-batsman Ravindra Siew (26), before Bevan Duncan hit 27 not out to hold together a sagging middle-over.

Leg-spinner Kevin Hercules took 3 for 32 for Valleyline, who had beaten Links XI twice in the preliminary round of the tournament.

Links XI started brilliantly with the ball with left-arm swing bowler Chris Goomansingh taking two of his three wickets (3/23) to reduce Valleyline to 33 for 3 in the early stages.

Damion Samuel made the critical breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Shiva Ramberan for 9.

Ramberan had scored 97 against Links XI in the preliminary round and got 71 in Valleyline’s semifinal win over Rochard Road United.

However, Links XI was a different proposition in the finals, with off-spinners Kern Ramdeen (3/17) and Denesh Ramdharry (2/18) cleaving through the Valleyline middle-order.

Only Valleyline skipper Rishi Gajadhar held his team together with 37 before they fell for 105 in 24.1 overs.

Off-spinner Ramdeen, who produced dramatic turn with this carom-ball variation, got the Player of the Match award for his 17 runs and three wickets.
