Joseph Lambert was elected as president of the senate on Tuesday, replacing Dieupie Chérubin in the post.
Lambert posted on Twitter, saying, “The house of the elect must be a place of decision and action. National dialogue is essential.”
Lambert had been president of the senate in 2006 and 2018.

Young doctor’s kidnapping triggers protests by university students

A young doctor and her friend were kidnapped in Port-au-Prince on Sunday, prompting medical students to react in protest against the crime wave.
The medical students demanded that Dr. Laure Marie Daniel and her friend Grégory Manian to be released without ransom.
“We therefore call for the mobilization and solidarity of all to demand the unconditional release… as soon as possible,” the protesting medical students wrote in a public note.
Dr. Hans Thelemaque was kidnapped for two days in late November. Scores of medical students also took to the streets then to successfully demand his release. Source
Artibonite doctors demand action on sanitary conditions

Sixteen doctors from a medical group sent a request to government officials, asking them to address “atrocious” sanitary conditions of the Artibonite Department.
The group, Doctors of Artibonite, also said the general director of sanitary conditions for the department, Dr. Marcel Chatelier, prioritizes politics over hygienic needs.
The Doctors of Artibonite wrote to Jean Osner Amisial, who represents the chief executive. Source
