Antigua and Barbuda: The tourism authority of Antigua and Barbuda shared an update on the participants from the various Secondary Schools across the nation who are going to participate in the Junior Minister of Tourism Competition. The ministry also shared the result of the Tourism Competition.
Yesterday, eight participants from Secondary Schools across the island went head to head in the Junior Minister of Tourism Competition.
Students were required to prepare their arguments on Agriculture In Tourism, Experiential Tourism, Community based Tourism and The Mystery Topic, which was geared towards Cultural Tourism.
All participants provided pertinent information about the rich history, culture and what makes Antigua and Barbuda a unique destination.
Tracey Browne, Senior Education and Training Officer within the Ministry of Tourism spearheaded the competition. At the same time, the former Junior Minister of Tourism, Jodian Parker, was charged with moderating, introducing participants, and providing the overview rules, while Nathania Silston was Mistress of Ceremonies and is also the Vice President of The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Cadet Corps 2019.
The competition judges were Patrice Simon – Executive Director of Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association; Javier Jacobs – Operations Manager of Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and Ruthlyn Matthias – Executive Director of Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute. The judge’s decision was difficult as each participant brought their A-Game to the competition. The head judge Jacobs was tasked with announcing the winner of the competition. Winner – Clarehall Secondary School: Ms Ti-ikha Edwards
1st Place – St. Anthony’s Secondary School: Ms Akemi Ducreay
2nd Place – Antigua Girls High School: Ms Neilisha Maragh
The winner of the competition will be representing Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) competition scheduled to take place in the Cayman Islands later this year. All participants and their coaches received prizes on behalf of Tourism Partners.
