The historic inaugural Caribbean Games got underway on Wednesday night following a party full of music and colour in Guadeloupe.
More than 800 athletes from 29 countries – Guyana included – were represented in front of sport leaders and fans during the athletes’ parade. The competitions officially began yesterday.
One by one, all the Caribbean countries paraded in front of the fans highlighted by their flag bearers and the unmistakable joy and celebrations of their teammates.
The competition features seven sports across five days of action. Guyana will be represented in three of the seven disciplines.
According to Chef de Mission, Deion Nurse, Team Guyana’s contingent will be participating in track and field, basketball 3 x 3, and swimming.
The sports which will be contested during the multi-sport regional championship event are Track and Field, Basketball 3×3, Cycling, Futsal, Judo, Swimming and Netball.

The Games which are for countries in the Caribbean, Central American country, Belize; and South American countries, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana, will be overseen by the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC).
