National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds met with immigration officers on Friday to continue dialogue on issues affecting the organisation as well as enhancing service delivery.
Present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary (Ag) in the Ministry of National Security, Gary Joseph; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag), Denise Phillip and immigration officers assigned to the Immigration Detention Centre, Piarco International Airport and the Port of Point Lisas.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Security, frank and cordial discussions included staffing, policy matters, working conditions, emoluments and allowances, facilities, training, and operations.
The Minister reiterated his approach of solution-oriented practices, making reference to his recent visit to immigration facilities and engagement of staff in May 2022.
He reminded the officers of the importance of the Immigration Division to national security and tourism.
Hinds further encouraged them to remain committed to executing their duties with integrity and professionalism in service to citizens, residents and visitors to Trinidad and Tobago.
Both Minister Hinds and Permanent Secretary Joseph committed to addressing the issues identified, indicating that the Ministry has already begun to treat with the matters outlined by the officers.
They gave the assurance that despite the limited financial resources available, the Ministry will continue to provide the necessary resources to the Immigration Division.
