Goodbye, Very Peri, Hello Viva Magenta!

The Pantone Color Institute announced that the Color of the Year for 2023 will be Viva Magenta, also known as Pantone 18-1750.

Pantone says the bright crimson colour is “an unusual shade for an unusual time.”

“Viva Magenta 18-1750 is full of life and energy. It is a natural colour from the family of reds and shows a new sign of strength. Pantone said on their website, “Viva Magenta is bold and fearless. It is a pulsing colour whose exuberance encourages a happy and hopeful celebration, writing a new story.”

Leatrice Eiseman, the head of the Pantone Color Institute, said that Viva Magenta was inspired by the red of cochineal, a small insect that makes a natural red dye.

She said, “In this age of technology, we look to nature and what is real for inspiration.” “Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta brings us back to original matter because it comes from the beginning.”

The Pantone Color Institute is known for its innovative system for matching colours, which lets people worldwide make the same, accurate colours. Since 2000, the company has picked a Color of the Year by looking at entertainment, fashion, social media, branding, and advertising trends.

The last colour of the year was Very Peri in 2022, a periwinkle colour that Pantone made just for that year.
