A Nigerian national who stabbed a policeman and engaged in a shootout with members of the Presidential Guard in an attempt to breach State House was charged today with the offence of Attempt to commit Murder.
The accused is Bethel Chimezie, 25, of Industry, East Coast Demerara.
The charge was laid under section 103(c) of the Criminal law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01committed on, Tellon Perreira, Police Corporal 25510.
Chimezie was also charged with Discharging a loaded firearm with intent, contrary to section 55 (a ) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
On December 15, 2022, presidential guard Corporal Telon Perreira was stabbed five times in the neck during a struggle when the accused attempted to breach the Security Perimeter Process Unit at State House.
