French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Guadeloupe born politician Justine Benin as Secretary of State for the Sea.
The announcement was made today after consultation with recently installed Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.
As Secretary of State for the Sea, Benin will work with directly with Borne on matters such as spatial planning at sea and marine mineral resources policy.

She will also be in charge of coastal protection and marine energies, aquaculture and coastal and marine tourism.
Benin is a long-standing supporter of Macron and serves as the Deputy of Guadeloupe.
Benin has been the Member of Parliament for the 2nd constituency since 2017 and she will be up for re-election next month.

President of Guadeloupe Ary Chalus congratulated Benin on her appointment.
“I can count on her determination to take up this new challenge. I wish her success in her future missions and assure her of my support in a ministry that is so important for our territories,” he said.
