Residents in Palo Seco were left shocked after the bruised body of a seven-year-old girl was discovered at her home on Saturday.
The child, who was identified as Mckenzie Hope Rechia of #7 Road Extension, Palo Seco, was allegedly strangled to death by her 25-year-old mother.
According to an official police report, around 4pm on Friday the child’s mother went to a supermarket with a male friend.
The woman reportedly asked the man to take her to visit an imam in Claxton Bay.
When she got there around 10:20pm, she allegedly confessed to the religious leader that she strangled her daughter and that she was unresponsive at home.
The iman accompanied the woman to the house around 12:30am, where the child’s body was discovered on a mattress with red marks on the left side of the neck.

A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal pending an autopsy.
