Fruits and vegetables can be great snacks. Finding foods that will make you feel rejuvenated and not bloated during the summer months is not relatively easy. We tend to indulge in high-watered foods and fruits to stay hydrated. It is a good thing to do, but what happens when we have too much watermelon, for example.
We start feeling uncomfortable and feel very bloated. The solution is to have a variety of fruits and vegetables for a quick snack or lunch to help us retain or gain more energy and balance our water intake.
Although many are meant to be cooked, vegetables can be consumed raw. These types of vegetables are excellent choices for snacks because you absorb all the nutrients and vitamins. The fresher these types of vegetables are, the better they taste. And also, when vegetables are cooked, they lose some of their vitamins and nutrients.
Here are a few fruits and vegetables that are perfect for a quick snack
Fruits:
Apples, oranges, and certain berries are available throughout the year and make great snacks. Now more than ever, eating a daily recommended amount of fruits is essential. It might be beneficial to at least eat one fruit. Today, there are more fruits and vegetables to choose from. Eating at least one fruit a day will help you gain some of the vitamins your body needs.
Apple, one of the most popular fruits, contains antioxidants and is high in fiber. It helps maintain a healthy gut and an overall healthy body.
Oranges and Berries also contain antioxidants and are high in vitamins that will benefit us as a whole and are not to be ignored. Eating an orange a day might help you maintain your vitamin C levels. Like so many other fruits, berries help you maintain a robust immune system.
Another great fruit to enjoy during the summer months, Watermelon, a water fruit. Although it can be available during the winter months in many supermarkets, the taste is better during the summer. And it does not make you feel full as if you had a real snack but filled with water.
When fruits are mixed with other vegetables are added to certain dishes, they are delicious, and you get a bonus of goodness. You get more health benefits and consume more vitamins.
Vegetables
Cucumber is one vegetable I often buy and add to my fruit snack. It is widely available and delicious with dried cranberries and mini sweet peppers. That’s a great salad combination.
Carrots are edible as well as tomatoes even though they are considered fruits. They can be eaten raw or cooked. Carrots, for example, are excellent energy juices. They are a great source of antioxidants, rich in vitamins, fiber, and minerals. Tomatoes are a great source of vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, and folate.
Many needed nutrients are obtained from eating green leafy vegetables. These green leafy vegetables are also great snacking ideas when added to fresh juices, smoothies, or shakes.
When juggling many activities the best way to stay healthy and hydrated during the summer months is to mix fruits and vegetables. For example, I will usually have a bowl of fruits and veggies as a snack instead of eating a pastry, grains, or any available treats. Another great way to get the full benefit is juicing. Buy a good juicer and juice away!
Eating a healthy snack is the best way to keep your body in shape. Stay motivated and incorporate more fruits and veggies during snack time, and don’t forget the kids, they need to eat their fruits and veggies also.
