Four men are in police custody after they were held while trying to steal copper cable wires in Mamoral.
The incident took place around 1:45am on Saturday in Mamoral #2.
Officers of the Central Division received a report that a group of men had been held trying to steal an estimated 50 feet of copper cables from the area.
When officers arrived, they met two estate constables from the TSTT Task Force, along with a group of villagers.
Investigators were told that the villagers had observed the men stealing the cables and given recent reports in the media of service disruptions caused by copper theft, they intervened and enacted a citizen’s arrest.
They then notified the Task Force members, who in turn notified the police.
The four men are between the age of 18 and 34 and are from the Williamsville, Princes Town, and Longdenville communities.
They were immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Officers also seized a vehicle – a Nissan Tiida – which was parked nearby and was said to belong to the suspects.
The suspects were taken to the Gran Couva Police Station for further inquiries and then to the San Fernando General Hospital to be treated for injuries.
