A former national footballer is remanded in custody at the Dominica State Prison pending a bail application hearing following five sex-related charges preferred against him by the police.
The accused man appeared in court on June 27, 2022 where the charges were read to him. He was not required to enter a plea since the charges are indictable offenses and are expected to be tried at the High court of Justice before a Judge and jury.
The sexual acts allegedly occurred earlier this year between two teenage girls below the age of 16.
At the court hearing, when the issue of bail arose, the police prosecutor objected to bail. However, the accused, who was without an attorney at the time, informed the court that attorney-at-law, Peter Alleyne, will be his lawyer and wanted him to be present when a bail application is heard on his behalf.
Presiding Magistrate Michael Laudat granted his request and adjourned the matter to June 30, 2022, for the bail hearing. Until such time, the man is remanded in custody at the Dominica State Prison.
