Five men were Friday charged and remanded to prison for their involvement in a carjacking ring on the East Bank Demerara.

They appeared at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court. Four of the men are from Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway. They are: Jomain Watson, 26, a driver; 32-year-old Toney Jerrick; 29-year-old Randy Fraser; and Jason Harry, 36. The fifth person charged is Stanford Ford, 25, from Kuru Kururu.

They all appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce.

Watson was charged with possession of firearm without license. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until September 28.

Jerrick and Ford were jointly charged with armed robbery committed on Tanesha Tanesha Fordyce at Hillfoot, Soesdyke Linden Highway on August 22.
They both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison until September 28 for this offence.

Ford was also charged with acquiring military clothes, to which he also pleaded not guilty and the matter was adjourned until September 28.

Harry, a businessman, was jointly charged with Fraserfor robbing Green Ice taxi driver Leonard Mc Kenzie at gunpoint of his motorcar.

The incident occurred on Tuesday last at Dookie Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.

The trio pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison until September 28.

The five men were arrested between Wednesday and Thursday.

According to police reports, Watson posed as a customer and told Mc Kenzie to take him to Dookie Sand Road at Soesdyke Linden Highway. Watson who was arrested on Wednesday was found with a 9mm handgun; he then led police ranks to a location at St. Cuthbert’s Mission where several stolen vehicles, vehicle parts and other items were recovered.

Following this discovery, police ranks searched several homes at Kuru Kururu where two suspects were arrested.

At the home of Ford, a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) camouflage shirt was found in a haversack; he claimed he got it from a relative who is a serving member of GDF.

Meanwhile, during a police ID parade, the five men were positively identified as being involved in a spate of robberies which occurred between Saturday and Tuesday.

A total of seven motorcars suspected to be stolen were recovered at St Cuthbert’s Mission and Long Creek, Soesdyke Linden Highway. The News Room understands that the cars were stripped of their engines and other parts.
