Fire officials were summoned to the University of the West Indies St Augustine campus on Thursday evening.
This followed reports that a building was on fire.
In a statement posted on Facebook around 8:24 pm, the UWI confirmed that the Lloyd Brathwaite Building was on fire.
We can confirm that just after 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 24, 2022, smoke was detected emanating from the Lloyd Brathwaite building on the St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies. The safety and security of staff and students are of paramount importance and the building which houses Student Administration was immediately evacuated. The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services are currently on the scene along with the Campus Incident Management Team and Executive Management.
University officials say the fire is now under control.
The extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
