FIFA High-Performance Specialist Abdul-Faisal Chibsah is impressed with the talent in Trinidad and Tobago and believes that this country can rise up the world rankings once again.
Chibsah was in Trinidad and Tobago for meetings with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) High-Performance program staff.
The former Academy Head of Recruitment for the Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC watched sessions conducted with this country’s U14, U15, and U17 teams.
“I think there is a lot of talent on the pitch that can propel the national teams to the top. What’s missing is the structures and the basics to help these kids live their dreams and make it into the national team programs. We come in, as the talent development scheme, and we can plug in those gaps, and hopefully have those kids live their dreams, and see Trinidad and Tobago back into the national team rankings,” said Chibsah.
The former University of Delaware star explained the objectives of FIFA’s talent identification, development, and performance analysis program.
“The objective here is to have the member associations of FIFA work with their national teams and put together structures and policies to increase the youth development programs and hopefully compete in the World Cup with men and women,” said Chibsah.
Chibsah said the High-Performance Program is a FIFA mandate for member associations and he explained some of its aims.
“It aims to increase global competitiveness, and we want to make sure the national teams are much more prepared for the changes that are coming. This is part of what FIFA is contributing to member associations in the high-performance area so that the focus is on the elite performance, the national teams, starting from the junior teams through to the senior national teams,” said Chibsah.
“Our job is to work with the member associations to help to put together structures for development. We see it as a huge opportunity to give every kid, every boy and girl, a chance to live their dreams, and hopefully, maximize the potential in every country,” he added.
Chibsah in commenting on the technical department of the TTFA said there are good people with good intentions for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The FIFA High-Performance Specialist is in Trinidad and Tobago for the week.
