With the July/August vacation in full swing and with the relaxation of several public health measures, this year’s vacation will see parents and children alike, making up for all opportunities lost over the last two years.

However, while many parents may have to work or may not be able to take their children on international trips, there are several fun activities that are available locally, and here’s the best part- they’re budget-friendly.

If you’re from Central Trinidad in particular, feel free to check out some of the places we have listed:

  1. La Vega Estate

Located in Gran Couva, La Vega Estate is a unique combination of a garden centre, plant nursery, nature park and pool facility. Their Nature and Recreation park features acres of green, scenic spaces for picnicking, playing, relaxing and enjoying the refreshing outdoors.

There are also several ponds on the compound where you are afforded the opportunity to fish for tilapia and crayfish (at a small cost). They’re open daily from 9am -5pm and are currently running some specials.

Phone contact- 679-9522.

  1. The Well Fun Park

This water park is located in Cunupia, on the corner of Welcome Road North and Raghunanan Road to be exact. There are several specials running throughout the week and they’ve recently introduced a free pool-side movie night. However there’s limited seating, but persons are invited to bring their own chairs. No outside food or drink are allowed and the offer does not give access to the pools.

Contact them at 739-7961.

3. Kalpoo’s Fishing Tours

Hosted by Kalpoo’s Bird Sanctuary Ibis Tours and located in the compound of the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, this family-run business currently has several offers available, one of the more popular being their fishing tours. If you’re looking for a fun family outing, Kalpoo’s seasoned captains will take you from the Caroni swamp through the beautiful mangroves out to the Gulf of Paria. Their tours are scheduled for 7:30 am-4 pm with check-in at 7 am.

Call Navin at 303-4287 or Ravi at 298-5310 to book your reservation or to get more information.

  1. Harry’s Water Park

Heading a bit more South, but still Central into the heart of Tabaquite, Harry’s Water Park and Nature Resort promise a day full of fun activities.  From the water park to zip lining to the nature trail to overnighting in the cabins, Harry’s has now added table tennis and mini-golf to their offerings.

Contact them at 798-0049, 466-9748, 392-4829 for enquiries.
