Diving wreck Tyrell Bay celebrates 1st anniversary

On 25 September 2018 the decommissioned Grenada Coast Guard boat, the Tyrell Bay, having been professionally cleaned at Clarks Court Bay Marina, was towed out to sea and sunk at her final resting place, becoming Grenada’s newest wreck diving site.

The Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association (GHTA) was honoured to be the main sponsor of the of the cleaning and sinking of the Tyrell Bay and is happy to report that, in her first year in her new home, she has been visited by 3,607 divers, who have all been thrilled to explore her uniqueness.

In addition to the Tyrell Bay, in March of 2018, the GHTA sponsored the sinking of the cargo vessel Anina, to add to Grenada’s wreck sites. Since her sinking, the Anina has been visited by 3,983 divers.

Police investigate death at Duquesne, St Mark – NOW Grenada

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 34-year-old that occurred on Thursday, 14 November 2019 sometime after 7 pm at Duquesne, St Mark.

Marvin Francis of Duquesne, St Mark was pronounced dead at the scene following an altercation in which he received several chop wounds to the body.

An autopsy is pending to determine the actual cause of death.

One man is currently in custody assisting police with the investigations.

Carriacou operations yield successes – NOW Grenada

A police operation in Harvey Vale, Carriacou on 13 November 2019 has turned up an AR15 semi-automatic rifle.

The rifle was recovered during a search on a property linked to two of the suspects in the recent major drug bust in Carriacou by the recently installed Operational Unit at the Northern Policing District.

In another operation at Harvey Vale on Thursday, 14 November 2019, the unit also confiscated 4.5 pounds of compressed cannabis. Two men are assisting police with their investigations.

Since its deployment a few weeks ago, the Operational Unit of the Northern Policing District has yielded numerous successes in its crime-fighting efforts.

Men on illegal firearm charges – NOW Grenada

Three St Andrew residents charged with possession of illegal firearm and ammunition will appear at the Grenville Magistrate’s Court on 30 January 2020.

Cliff Walker, 34 years, Mechanic of Salisbury Road, Grenville, Derick Fletcher, 28 years, Mechanic of Soubise and Danny Herry, 28 years, unemployed resident of Sendall Street, Grenville were charged following investigations into a shooting incident that occurred on 6 August 2019 which left one of the defendants, Cliff Walker, hospitalised with a gunshot wound to the left side of the chest.

A search of Walker’s vehicle turned up 33 rounds of ammunition. A bullet hole was seen to the front windscreen of the vehicle.

All three men are currently each on $7,000 bail with one surety.
