Trinidad and Tobago defender Aubrey David helped Alajuelense to a 3-0 win over Real Club Deportivo Espana in the first leg of the Concacaf League semifinals on Tuesday night.
The 31-year-old, who represented Trinidad and Tobago in the King’s Cup in Thailand in September, was on the field for the full 90 minutes against Espana.
Alajuelense went ahead in the 11th minute through Freddy Gondola before Johan Venegas gave the Costa Rican club a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute.
Celso Borges wrapped up the 3-0 win two minutes later with a sumptuous chip from inside the area after a dangerous counterattack.
David was also booked in the 17th minute, one of seven players yellow carded in the match.
Alajuelense will host Real Espana in the second leg of the semifinal on 11 October.
If the Costa Rican club successfully makes it to the final, it will be David’s third trip to the Concacaf League final.
In 2019, David, playing for Costa Rican club Saprissa, won the Concacaf League with a 1-0 win over Motagua.
In 2020, David, again with Saprissa, ironically lost out to Alajuelense 3-2 in the Concacal League finals.
