With the victory in the futsal tournament, the Cuban delegation rounded off the figure of 21 titles conquered in the 1st Caribbean Games, thus dominating the medal table of the contest that this Sunday lowered its curtains in Guadeloupe, according to official media reports from the island.

The athletes from the largest of the Caribbean islands harvested a total of 53 medals in the multi-sport event, since they added 16 silver medals and the same number of bronze to the number of scepters, according to a note published by the specialized website Jit.

The prizes were won by the representatives in five of the six sports with a Cuban presence, since only the 3×3 basketball team was left off the podium. Swimming took the lead, with nine gold medals, the same number of silver and 13 bronze medals, the publication added.

The other sports that made a great contribution to the results of the delegation were athletics (4-4-2), judo (5-1-1), cycling (2-2-0) and futsal (1-0-0). In addition to the victory in the futsal final with a score of 9-2, on the last day cyclists Daymelín Pérez and Aylena Quevedo dominated the individual time trial in that order.

There was also a gold medal for Cuba in judo, after the 4-2 victory over Martinique in the final of the team competition, and another one-two in the open water swimming test by Rodolfo Falcón Jr. and Vladimir Hernández.

The biggest medal winner in swimming in the nascent multi-sport competition was precisely a Cuban; young Andrea Becali won four gold medals, two silver and two bronze, said Jit.

According to the publication, behind Cuba came the representation of Puerto Rico after winning 12 gold medals, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals, behind Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago (5-8- 6), Dominican Republic (5-5-8) and Jamaica (4-3-1) completed the first five places.
