Trinidad and Tobago swimmer Dylan Carter won gold in the men’s 50-meter freestyle event in the first leg of the FIFA World Cup series in Germany, breaking the national record in the process.
The 26-year-old touched the wall in 20.77 seconds, beating Kyle Chalmers of Australia (21.77) and Florent Manoudou (21.05) into second and third place respectively.
Carter broke the previous record of 20.82 seconds, held by former T&T swimmer George Bovell III.
His previous best in the 50m freestyle was 21.91 seconds recorded at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Bovell set the time of 21.20 seconds in July 2009 at the World Championships in Rome, Italy.
Carter also holds seven other individual national long course records and two national relay records.
