Dylan Carter clocked 22.11 seconds to qualify for the semifinals of the men’s 50m butterfly at the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships on Tuesday in Melbourne, Australia.
The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic swimmer won Heat 8 ahead of Chad Le Clos (22.31) of South Africa, and Ilya Kharun (22.32) of Canada.
Carter finished fourth overall behind Noe Ponti (22.01) of Switzerland, Tzen Wei Teong (22.01) of Singapore, and Szebasztian Szabo (22.07) of Hungary.
The 26-year-old won the 50m butterfly in the USA, Canada, and Germany at the FINA Swimming World Cup earlier this year.
Carter also competes in the 50m backstroke on 15 December, and the 50m freestyle on 16 December.
The 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) runs from 13-18 December.
