Trinidad and Tobago’s Akil Campbell won the men’s elimination race at the 2022 Tissot UCI Track Nation’s Cup in Cali, Columbia on Friday night.
The 26-year-old won gold ahead of Michele Scartezzini of Italy and Jordan Arley Parra Arias of Columbia.
Campbell, who is the 2022 national champion in the points race and the scratch race, also won the elimination race at the 2021 Nation’s Cup in Cali in 2021.
The San Fernando-born cyclist also took gold in the scratch race at the Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru in 2021.
Campbell is the first Trinidad and Tobago is the first Trinidad and Tobago cyclist to compete successfully in an endurance event (men’s scratch race) internationally.
