Police are trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed the home of attorney-at-law Kiel Taklalsingh.

The incident was reported around 7pm on Friday at the home along Bhim Street, Chaguanas.

Taklalsingh was at home, asleep. Two other relatives were there at the time.

He told investigators that he was awakened by a rustling noise, and the shouts of his neighbour.

He soon realized that his home was on fire.

He gathered his relatives, some valuables, and his dog, and went outside.

In the process, he had to kick a door down and suffered minor injuries.

Officers from the Chaguanas Police Station and the Chaguanas Fire Station responded.

However, the fire officers were unable to save the structure.

Estimates are still being drafted for losses incurred.
