  • Warning: This article contains strong language.
  • Armie Hammer says he won’t be responding to “bullshit claims” being made following a viral text scandal.
  • Women have come forwards claiming the actor sent them texts of an inappropriate, graphic and sexual nature.
  • The Rebecca star has since stepped down from an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lopez out of concern for his kids.

Armie Hammer is breaking his silence after a social media user shared multiple private texts, alleging they were sent to her from the actor, before several other women came forward as well.

The texts went viral for their alarmingly inappropriate, graphic and sexual nature, with @houseofeffie, first saying they were fake, but later backtracking and claiming they’re “real”. “Crazy fans went so far as to fake a DM by me,” she said.

Now, the Rebecca star has spoken out following the viral tweets. “I’m not responding to these bullshit claims,” he said in a statement to E! News, “but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot, in good conscience now, leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic.”

The 34-year-old has backed out of Shotgun Wedding, which he was supposed to star in alongside Jennifer Lopez, reports Deadline.

“Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that,” he continued in his statement.

In a separate statement, a spokesperson for the film added: “Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film, and we support him in his decision.”

The viral text scandal comes shortly after the actor’s split from wife Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he shares two children. He rang in the new year with his kids in the Cayman Islands, where they also stayed amid the pandemic.
