Antigua and Barbuda: The government of Antigua and Barbuda have decided to relaunch the Plastic Waste Free Island Project on July 4th, 2022. The main aim of the government behind the step is to reduce or diminish the use of plastic on the Caribbean island.
The resumption of the policy will entirely focus on the collection of bottles that participants have been storing since the end of 2021. The days for the commencement of the project have also been decided by the government, and it will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The timing for the campaign would be 9: 00 am to 3: 30 pm daily.
The government of Antigua and Barbuda has also decided the locations such as Epicurean Fine Foods & Pharmacy Supermarket on Epicurean Drive, Ebenezer Plaza South Mall and Crab Hole Liquors, Cobb’s Cross, and All Saints Road in the proximity of Fresh and Easy Supermarket on Saturdays.
The government has asked every participant in the pilot phase with their coucher booklets, and they will be awarded new voucher booklets to collect their significant reward.
The government further noted that the payment would be made on the return of soda and water bottles with code origin under which bottles will be represented clean with NO caps, transparent and not dirty or damaged and nor containing any liquid.
Further, the redemption of the awards will also continue through all the local telecommunication companies with various cashback schemes from the Department of Environment of the country.
The Ministry of Environment of Antigua and Barbuda also apologizes for the delay in restarting the project and extends the gratitude to the public for their patience and support to the government of the Caribbean country.
Nevertheless, the Ministry also looks forward to their continued collaboration with the general public in green initiatives aimed at strengthening our environmental sustainability, thus contributing to our overall health.
