Antigua and Barbuda: Man who raped his 5 year old niece sentenced to five years in prison

Antigua and Barbuda: A 21-year-old man who raped his toddler niece was sentenced to five years and three months in Her Majesty’s Prison. Justice Colin Williams handed down the sentence. The five-year-old was sexually assaulted twice on December 28, 2019, by the teenager, who had previously admitted to the charge of incest.

The young girl’s brother claims that on the disputed evening, he and his uncle were playing football in the Ovals in Antigua and arrived home around 9 p.m. When the then-11-year-old boy returned from making a purchase, he noticed his then-18-year-old uncle in the bedroom where his sister and mother were sleeping and watched him pulling up both the child’s and his own pants.

The 11-year-old was surprised to see what had happened while the defendant chuckled. While the kid went to sleep, he noticed that in the middle of the night, his uncle was humping the baby.

Even before dressing the infant and himself, the accused washed her, according to the witness. The young kid told his mother what he had seen as soon as he woke her up, and when she checked her daughter, she discovered proof of the cleaning.

After thoroughly cleaning the victim, the mother put both of her kids back to bed and messaged the girl’s father to let him know what had happened.

The following morning, the mother called the police to report the incident. When questioned, the five-year-old admitted to the officers that her uncle frequently physically abused her in this manner.

The child’s mother said that the accused threatened to kill her. But, when the police interrogated the defendant after being brought into custody, he denied the accusations. He said that all he had done was touch her with his penis while masturbating over her.

He used the excuse that he “was horny and wanted sex” when questioned why he did it. The victim, who is traumatised by the experience and wants to dress like a boy because she fears being raped again, was brought up in court.

However, the judge began the young guy’s punishment by saying that because the young man was “not the sharpest tool in the shed,” he did not believe that he was an adult at the time of the occurrence.
