Police said a 36-year-old man who allegedly attempted to rob a minimart owner was stabbed to death in St Joseph on Sunday morning.
Police identified the deceased as Dyke Skeete of Railway Road in Curepe.
According to police reports, around 10am on Sunday, Skeete made his way to the minimart, located along Hutton Road in St Joseph.
At the time he was in the company of two other women.
Skeete, police were told, was armed with a hammer.
The trio allegedly announced a hold-up and attacked the 34-year-old man who was manning the cashier of the shop.
The victim pulled out a knife that was nearby and defended himself.
During the ensuing scuffle, the 34-year-old was struck to the head repeatedly with the hammer.
However, Skeete was also stabbed repeatedly.
Both men collapsed on the ground, and the women fled the scene.
The police and paramedics were notified, and the injured persons were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however, Skeete succumbed to his injuries.
Inquiries are continuing.
